Virgil van Dijk is a doubt for the midweek clash against Leicester City at Anfield, according to the Mirror. The Dutch defender has been a stalwart for the Reds this season, however, he is carrying an illness, as per the report.
The centre-back picked up the problem while training in Dubai and is not 100% fit. The Mirror adds that the Dutchman missed Monday’s training at Melwood, and Jurgen Klopp will take a decision after assessing his condition on Tuesday.
Van Dijk’s absence would be a huge blow for the side aiming to win their first Premier League title. Liverpool are four points ahead of Manchester City, but could see their lead reduced to one point should the Cityzens win their clash today.
There is some good news with the report suggesting that Dejan Lovren is on standby to replace the Dutchman alongside Joel Matip. The Croatian is coming off a hamstring problem while Matip only recently returned from a broken collarbone.
Liverpool need to get three points against Leicester, with Manchester City putting the pressure on us. The Reds have had their injury problems this season with Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Georginio Wijnaldum also carrying knocks.
The pair missed the 4-3 win over Crystal Palace and James Milner will miss this the game against the Foxes too due to suspension.

Van Dijk’s leadership will also be missed at the back but let’s hope that we come out unscathed from this clash with all three points.
