Former Manchester United striker Paul Ince has claimed that Virgil van Dijk could be Liverpool’s Eric Cantona. The Frenchman joined United from Leeds United in 1992 and helped the Red Devils to dominate the English game.
Van Dijk joined the Reds for a world record fee of £75m (h/t Daily Star) from Southampton a year ago, and Ince told the Times (h/t Daily Star) that Cantona was the final jigsaw of the puzzle for the Red Devils.
“When he came into the changing room for the first time, he was a big man, a big presence of a man, and his attitude matched our attitude.”
The English striker further claimed that Cantona wanted to win titles. Ince added that Alisson has been a great signing too but Van Dijk has made the team better:
“The goalkeeper [Alisson Becker] has come in and done well but I look at Van Dijk and think he has made the rest of the players around him better.”
Ince further added that Liverpool have a presence that scares the opposition, and believed this is a great trait to have for title-winning teams. The Reds have a great chance of breaking their Premier League duck this season as we are holding Manchester City at bay.
Our next game is against West Ham United and we can keep our five-point lead over the Cityzens if we beat the Hammers.

Liverpool drew their previous game against Leicester but we are a tough side to beat. The Reds have conceded just 14 goals in 24 Premier League games this season, and we can’t rule out another clean sheet at the London Stadium on Monday.
