West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini provided an update on Marko Arnautovic’s injury. The Austrian limped off with a problem in the loss to Wolves, and the Hammers manager is hopeful of the forward starting against the Reds.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), the manager claimed that he was happy the Austrian stuck with the side after being linked with a move away in the winter window, and believed the striker was improving ahead of the clash against Liverpool.
“Arnautovic is improving. The problem he had in the last game, we will see when he arrives on Monday if he is able to play [against Liverpool].
“Next day we will be clear a little bit more about his position.”
The former Stoke City forward is a mercurial player and can provide our defence with a lot of problems. The Austrian has found the back of the net seven times in the Premier League, but his last goal came in the 2-0 win over Birmingham in the FA Cup.
The Hammers have several players injured but the Reds are facing some problems too. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are yet to be declared fit while Dejan Lovren is also carrying a knock ahead of the game.
There is some good news for the Reds with James Milner returning to the side after his suspension against the Foxes.
Liverpool easily defeated the Hammers in the reverse fixture early in the season and hopefully, we come out with all three points from the London Stadium on Monday.
