Former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes Liverpool have it easier than his former club in the race for the Premier League.

The Chilean lifted the Premier League crown by defeating us in 2013-14 and claimed our lack of domestic cup competition is a boon for the rest of the season.

The West Ham manager told reporters (h/t ESPN) that City’s progress in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup will have an effect as their fixtures get rescheduled:

“It’s more easy for the team that is involved in just two competitions, compared to the team that is involved in four.

“City have to play the final of the Carabao Cup which will suspend a game. If they make the semifinal of the FA Cup, they must suspend another game.

Pellegrini added that City are competing in the Champions League too, and it would not be easy playing in four competitions.

The Reds were knocked out in the first games of domestic cup competitions, while the Champions League has us up against Bayern Munich in the round of 16.

Pellegrini is right in suggesting that we have a bit of an edge given the extra rest days in between. The Reds need time off given the state of our defence.

Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold are struggling with injuries. Hopefully, one of the three stars becomes fit for the clash against Bournemouth on February 9.

The Reds have their huge Champions League clash against Bayern Munich on 19th February. We then play Manchester United a few days later, which will be another test of our title credentials.
