Joe Gomez posted about his surgery, claiming it was a success as the Liverpool defender is set to be out for a while. The Englishman suffered a lower leg fracture in the win over Burnley a few months ago and was expected to return in February.

However, the club confirmed that the defender’s recovery hasn’t gone to plan and surgery was the best option to speed up his return.

The centre-back was having a fantastic season before his injury, and it doesn’t come as a surprise that we are leaking goals at the moment.

Gomez needs to come back to his best soon as the Reds dropped more points against West Ham United. We were a little fortunate to come out with a draw against a decent Hammers side and now sit just three points ahead of Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s men could top the table before we play Bournemouth at the weekend, as they face Everton in midweek.

Gomez and Van Dijk had formed a formidable partnership this season, and we have faced further injury problems with Trent Alexander-Arnold being sidelined for a while too.

The pair was first-choice in their respective positions and hopefully, Trent returns for the clash against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Liverpool still have an advantage over City in the Premier League race, but we cannot afford to drop more points.
