Bayern Munich and Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has given Liverpool his backing ahead of the huge Champions League tie between the two sides. The Reds host Bayern in the first leg in February before we travel to Munich for the return leg on 13th March.
Matthaus not only backed the Reds to get one over his former side but tipped them to go all the way. The Germany legend wrote in his March column for FourFourTwo magazine (h/t Liverpool Echo) and even claimed we had a complete side:
“Liverpool have been my favourites from the start, and I don’t like to change my mind. After reaching last year’s final, they’re ready to win it. They have the most complete team.”
The German provided some hope to Bayern since we lost all three away group games this season, but believed that the Reds had more quality than the Bundesliga champions.
Bayern aren’t dominating the German league this season and sit seven points behind Jurgen Klopp’s former team Borussia Dortmund.
The Germans will also miss out on the services of Thomas Muller since he is suspended and it is to be seen if Manuel Neuer will be fit for the clash against the Reds on 19th February.
The Reds have their own injury concerns with Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Georginio Wijnaldum, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson carrying knocks.
However, if our attack gets going, we will come out on top in the two-legged affair.
