Jurgen Klopp has shared a time-frame for Joe Gomez’s return after the 21-year-old defender went under the knife to deal with a lower leg fracture.
The Englishman was expected to return this month after picking up the problem against Burnley, however, the recovery did not go as expected and the decision to undergo surgery was taken.
The manager claimed the surgery had gone well and expected the defender to be out for four to six weeks (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Joe’s surgery went pretty well. The timescale is always difficult but it’s four to six weeks for a return to play. Hopefully that’s the case. We work on that.”
The Liverpool Echo adds that Gomez would miss eight games for the Reds during his time out, and it includes the two Champions League fixtures against Bayern Munich.
That is a huge problem for Liverpool
, especially for the first leg as Virgil van Dijk is suspended for the tie. The centre-back will also not feature against Manchester United and Everton as the Premier League race heats up, and this is a big blow for the side.Gomez had a great first half to the season and it comes as no surprise that the defence has looked leaky ever since he has been out of the side.
