Liverpool FC transfer news: Xherdan Shaqiri keeps door open for a return to Bayern Munich

Liverpool face Bayern Munich in what should be one of the ties of the Champions League round of 16.

The Reds host the Bavarians in the first leg at Anfield and have a former player, Xherdan Shaqiri, in the side.

The Swiss star spent two and a half seasons with Bayern and won the Champions League while completing two league and cup doubles.

Although Shaqiri is a Red, he still has great memories about his time in Germany and has kept the door open to a return.

The Swiss star was speaking to Sport1 and claimed Munich also feels like home (h/t Express):

“The best time of my career so far was at Bayern. I learnt a lot and gained many friends.

“Every time I come back to Munich I feel at home.

“A return one day is totally imaginable because I always carry Bayern in my heart.”

Shaqiri only signed for the Reds in the summer from Stoke, who he joined from Inter Milan.

Shaqiri has shown glimpses of quality at Liverpool

The Swiss star hasn’t been a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp, but Shaqiri has done the business off the bench in several games.

The former Stoke City star scored a couple of goals when we defeated Manchester United early in the season, and it will be interesting to see what role he plays in the game on Tuesday.

Bayern haven’t been dominant this season while Liverpool have been excellent in the Premier League. The Reds should come into the game with a lot of confidence, and Shaqiri could be the difference maker if things are tight.
