Liverpool FC transfer news: Napoli star plays down reports of joining the Reds
Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski has claimed that he was never close to becoming a Liverpool player.
The Daily Mail reports that the 24-year-old Polish international was pictured wearing a Liverpool jersey in 2016 while he was on loan at Empoli.
The report adds that the 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Anfield that season, but ended up joining the Naples based side.
Speaking to sportowefakty (h/t Daily Mail), the Pole even added that he never spoke with the Liverpool manager too:
“I’ve never talked to Klopp. There’s nothing to say about Liverpool or anyone else.”
Napoli is home for Zielinski
The Pole further added that he was happy at the Serie A side and was concentrating on doing well with them this season.
Zielinski added that his agents are trying to renew a deal with the Italians and wants to win a trophy with the Serie A side.
The Pole is one of the best holding midfielders in the Italian game but we have someone who seems to do a great job at the moment.
Fabinho has impressed at Anfield after a slow start and even excelled as a centre-back in our 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

The Brazilian can also play as a right-back, and he has certainly provided Jurgen Klopp with a selection headache as the German tries to fit in Naby Keita, James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum in the midfield.
