Latest Liverpool news: Several fans praise Fabinho for performance in 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich
Liverpool were in a bit of a pickle regarding their defensive line-up as Virgil van Dijk was suspended against Bayern Munich.
The Dutch defender has been excellent this season, and our problems were increased with Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez out injured.
That meant Fabinho had to play as a centre-back again, and this would have been a big test going up against Robert Lewandowski.
However, the Brazilian did an admirable job and even had a couple of crucial tackles to keep the Polish striker from getting a shot off.
Defensive work not new for Fabinho
The Brazilian has played at the back earlier in his career, but it speaks volumes of his ability to switch positions comfortably.
There is no doubt Jurgen Klopp would have worked with Fabinho during the Marbella break, but this was still an impressive showing against one of the best in the world.
Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman weren’t at their best which reduced the service to Lewandowski.
Fortunately, Van Dijk will be back for the second leg and we might have more options at the back too.
Matip did a great job alongside the Brazilian and many Liverpool supporters praised the efforts of Fabinho after the 0-0 draw.
Liverpool have been credited with exactly one last-man tackle in 35 matches this season.
It came in the UCL Round of 16 from a guy making his third career start at CB against a guy with 109 goals in the past three seasons.

The most satisfying aspects for #LFC were 1) the clean sheet, 2) Fabinho’s accomplished performance in an unfamiliar role, 3) a strong display from Henderson. Not a bad result at all. Just all a lot more low-key than we’re used to seeing with #LFC in Europe.

Fabinho is now firmly established as one of our key players and I’d argue our most intelligent, alongside Van Dijk. Reads the game incredibly well, always composed and commanding. Top player.

He might’ve taken a few months to settle in, but Fabinho has turned out to be a great signing. Incredible in midfield and also extremely reliable at CB / RB! #LFC

Fabinho is an absolute class player, his game intelligence is through the roof, €40 million is a steal for him, his tackle on Lewandowski in the box today was top level

I honestly love Fabinho so much man.

Fabinho was outstanding tonight as a make shift centre back tonight. Dont underestimate how vital Matip was also he made some crucial interceptions to stop them counter attacking. All in all clean sheet against a quality with a make shift defence is positive. #LFC
