Latest Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp confirms Dejan Lovren is doubtful for Manchester United clash
Liverpool come off a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League but there is no time to rest with a trip to Old Trafford at the weekend.
The Reds played Fabinho in the heart of the defence against the Germans. Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez are injured while Virgil van Dijk served a suspension.
Although the Dutch defender should return to the starting XI against the Red Devils, Lovren is still a major doubt for the tie.
The Croatian was seen during the game covered in a red blanket, and Klopp confirmed that the former Southampton man will take time to recover from his hamstring injury (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“There was not a real doubt, to be honest.
“It was not mind games but Dejan had no chance for the game today actually, I don’t think he even has a chance for the next game. He will take his time.”
The Croatian wasn’t missed much since Fabinho did a wonderful job at the back keeping Bayern at bay.
No Lovren, no problem for now
Van Dijk returning to the team is a huge boost for the tie against the Red Devils and Joel Matip has done a brilliant job despite injuries to the other central defenders.
Although Lovren seemed to be preferred over Matip, the Croatian’s loss should not be felt for now.
Van Dijk and Matip as a pair should deal with United, while we can call upon Fabinho to slot in too.

However, we need the Croatian to quickly return to fitness as suspensions and injuries could be problematic later on in the season.
