Latest Liverpool news: Steve Nicol worried about Liverpool’s attack going wrong

Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol is worried about Liverpool’s attack going limp at the wrong time of the season.

The Reds were toothless at Old Trafford and had one shot on target while they failed to score against Bayern Munich too.

Jurgen Klopp’s attacking trio have been a little inconsistent this season, even though we lead the Premier League by a point.

Speaking after the 0-0 result against Manchester United Nicol was worried about the form of our front three (h/t Express):

“I can’t remember them ever being, the three of them, so poor at the same time.

“Salah’s had spells when he didn’t score at the start of the year and Firmino sometimes hasn’t knitted it together as well.

“But every single thing is going wrong for the three of them now, including Mane.”

Lack of goals from midfield a problem

Nicol claimed that if the front three don’t score, it is difficult for the Reds to beat any side. The former Liverpool star added that there aren’t enough goals coming from the midfield with only Georginio Wijnaldum chipping in with an effort or two.

The ESPN pundit further claimed that it is a bit hit and miss from both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Nicol predicted that Manchester City would win more games than Liverpool if things stayed the same.

The goals have dried up a bit for the Reds but this is also due to the fact that Jurgen Klopp is deploying a more pragmatic style of football this season.

The Reds aren’t going for all-out attacks and seem solid while defending. The two draws against Bayern and United aren’t the worst results when taken into isolation.

Further, our Premier League title chances lie in our own hands as long as we match Manchester City’s results till the end of the campaign.
