Latest Liverpool news: Dirk Kuyt reveals Steven Gerrard inspiration over coaching role

Former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has claimed that Steven Gerrard’s decision to take up the Rangers job played a part in the Dutchman’s future role.

The Mirror claims that the 38-year-old Kuyt is expected to be named as the new Feyenoord boss for the coming season after a successful spell with the youth team of the side.

The Dutch striker revealed that he spoke with the former captain when he took up a youth coaching job at Anfield (h/t Mirror):

“When Steven Gerrard had only just become a youth coach at Liverpool, after his retirement, we spoke about the road he was going to follow.”

The former striker added that Gerrard wanted to leave the Reds and develop himself away from the spotlight of the Premier League.

Steven Gerrard has taken over as Rangers boss

Gerrard has done a great job with Rangers as he battles Celtic for the Scottish Premiership this season, but Kuyt believes that the former captain has a bigger team in mind:

“Glasgow Rangers is a massive club. It will be Steven’s dream to become Liverpool manager one day.

“But to get there he is very much following his own path.”

Kuyt looking for additional help

The report adds that the striker is looking for an experienced right-hand man with former Rangers boss Dick Advocaat in the running for the job.

Kuyt was one of our most passionate players and even though he wasn’t prolific as a striker, the always gave 100% and more on the pitch.
