Liverpool FC transfer news: Reds to battle Manchester United for James Rodriguez

The Mirror (h/t Sky Sports) reports that Liverpool are amongst several clubs interested in Colombian attacker James Rodriguez.

The 27-year-old is on loan at Bayern Munich from Real Madrid and the Reds are keeping tabs on the attacker should the Germans not sign him permanently (h/t Sky Sports).

Rodriguez joined the Bavarians on a two-year loan deal after failing to make it big at Real. The Colombian had a wonderful 2014 World Cup but has failed to replicate his form at the Spanish giants.

The 27-year-old only has three goals and three assists to his name for the Bundesliga giants this season. The report adds that Manchester United are also keen on the Colombian and both Premier League sides could go head-to-head for his signature in the summer.

Midfield magic needed at Liverpool?

Rodriguez was one of the hottest properties in football after his exploits in the 2014 World Cup. However, things haven’t really progressed well for him ever since.

The report adds that Liverpool have been linked with the Colombian in the past, and it will be interesting to see if we make a serious move for him in the summer.

Liverpool could do with more creativity in the middle of the park, something that has been missing this season.

The loss of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona still hasn’t been addressed and there is no doubt we have missed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s ability in the side too.

Rodriguez still has a few quality years left in him, and he could be one of the biggest transfer stories at the end of the season.
