Liverpool FC transfer news: Liverpool enter race to sign 25-year-old Matthias Ginter

Jurgen Klopp wants to sign Matthias Ginter for the second time, according to Calciomercato (h/t Daily Star).

The German brought the defender to Borussia Dortmund during his time at the club, and Ginter has grown into a quality player after his move to Borussia Monchengladbach.

The report claims that Tottenham and Arsenal are also interested in the 25-year-old, and that could make things tricky for us.

Liverpool have the best defence in the Premier League, but the report claims that Joel Matip could be on his way out of the club, this opening the door for Ginter.

The 25-year-old is a German international and has played 20 times for the Bundesliga club this season.

More defensive options for Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez had done well as a pair this season until the latter picked up a lower leg fracture.

The other central defenders we have in the side are Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip. However, Lovren has had his injury concerns while Matip has done alright in certain patches of his time at Anfield.

The Cameroon defender has been excellent alongside Van Dijk in the second half of the season, and it will be interesting to see what our plans are with the back-four.

Van Dijk is our best defender while Gomez proved he can be a decent quality partner too. However, we need to have quality options in case one of them gets injured.

Ginter could be a decent signing for us given that Klopp knows the player from his time in Germany. The Reds were busy in the summer last season and could be set for another crazy window once this campaign ends.
