Latest Liverpool news: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could play U23 game on Monday

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return to the Liverpool first-team took another massive forward step as the Liverpool Echo reports the Englishman is in contention for the Premier League 2 clash on Monday.

The midfielder has been injured since last season’s Champions League tie against AS Roma but has made significant progress regarding his knee problem.

The report adds that Jurgen Klopp would make a late decision over the Ox’s playing time in the U23 Merseyside derby on Monday.

Should the Englishman not play in that game, the next possible date is the clash against Derby County on Friday.

Klopp wants the Ox to return fit

The report adds that Klopp wants Oxlade-Chamberlain to pick up some important minutes under his belt playing for Neil Critchley’s side and build up his match fitness.

The Reds have missed the Englishman’s dynamism in the midfield this season, and it would be a huge boost if we get him back before the season ends.

Liverpool are in a decent position in both the Premier League and the Champions League. The Reds are in a tough battle with Manchester City in the league while we drew 0-0 with Bayern Munich in our round of 16 first leg in the Champions League.

The Ox was in great form before he picked up that horror injury against the Italians and hopefully, he comes back stronger than ever and leads us to the league title this season.
