The 27-year-old has made Liverpool the toughest defence to crack in the Premier League and was supreme in the 0-0 draw against Everton.
The point didn’t help us overtake Manchester City in the Premier League standings and BBC pundit Garth Crooks believed Van Dijk could leave in the summer.
Crooks wrote about his team of the week with Van Dijk featuring in the defence. The pundit claimed the defender was “immense” and tried to win us the game by scoring goals and keeping things tight at the back.
However, the pundit claimed it would be difficult for other players to turn down Real Madrid or Barcelona (h/t BBC Sport):
“The problem for Liverpool is simply this; if they don’t win the title this season the chances are Real Madrid or Barcelona will come knocking – probably both. And few turn them down.”
Although Liverpool don’t have a great record in keeping players from joining either Real or Barcelona in recent years, it seems unlikely Van Dijk would leave the team in less than two years.
The Dutchman has developed into one of the best defenders in the world, and Liverpool won’t let him go without a fight.
Several Liverpool fans caught hold of Crooks’ statement and had a go at the pundit for suggesting that the Dutchman would be off.
