Latest Liverpool news: Some Liverpool supporters don’t want Dejan Lovren back in the team

Dejan Lovren is fighting a battle to be fit for the weekend’s game against Burnley. The Croatian hasn’t played for Liverpool in close to two months, and the Liverpool Echo reports that the defender did not participate in training on Wednesday.

The defender picked up an injury in our FA Cup defeat to Wolves, and was an unused sub in the draw against Leicester City.

However, the report adds that he aggravated his problem and hasn’t featured since.

Joe Gomez is also recuperating from an injury, and we should see Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip stick in the heart of the defence.

Matip doing a great job

Matip might not have been a first choice defender after Gomez’s form, however, the former Schalke star has done well alongside Van Dijk.

The Reds have kept four consecutive Premier League clean sheets, and should be looking to pick up another one on Sunday.

Burnley will a tough side to break and they will come into the game with some confidence given their fairly recent win over Tottenham.

Lovren was ahead of Matip at one stage last season, however, his injury record hasn’t been great this season.

Several Liverpool fans didn’t want the Croatian back in the side, even if he was fit, as some considered him a liability.
