Latest Liverpool news: Fans fume as Manchester City win after controversial goal

Manchester City opened up a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League after their 3-1 win over Watford.

The Hornets did well to keep them at bay as the first half ended 0-0. However, things changed in the second after a major bit of controversy.

Raheem Sterling seemed to have scored after the break but the effort was ruled offside. The Englishman was in an offside position as Sergio Aguero chested the ball to him. Daryl Janmaat then played the ball off Sterling, who was still offside, but it ended in the back of the net.

The linesman had flagged Sterling for being offside but the referee consulted and finally awarded City the goal.

City get their groove but Liverpool fans unimpressed

Sterling then opened the floodgates by completing his hat-trick in 14 second-half minutes. Gerard Deulofeu grabbed one back for the Hornets but it wasn’t enough to help them mount a comeback.

Liverpool have had their bit of luck this season with some goals, however, City have also had their lucky calls this season.

The goal certainly should have been chalked off and it is a bit of a rarity when a referee rules against the linesman’s offside call.

The win enabled City to remain on top of the league for another week and many Liverpool fans were upset at the calls made by the ref on Saturday.
