“Great news”, “He is fine” – Some Liverpool fans relieved that star midfielder didn’t pick up serious injury for U23s

Latest Liverpool news: Fans relieved as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury isn’t serious

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made his return to the Liverpool U23s against Derby on Friday.

It was an awaited return as the Englishman hasn’t played since the Champions League semi-final against AS Roma last season after suffering a terrible knee injury.

The youngster has made great strides in his recovery and could play some games for the first-team this season.

However, his return didn’t go as well since he was replaced in the 40th minute. The midfielder picked up a muscle problem and was taken off.

Not a concern for Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp provided an update on the 25-year-old and claimed that the most important thing is that the player’s knee is “perfect” (h/t Liverpoolfc.com).

The German added the Ox wasn’t expected to play many minutes against Derby, and was pleased that nothing else happened to the Englishman:

“Football games are different to football training, that’s why he felt the muscle a little bit, and thank God we were smart enough to take him off, even if it was only five minutes earlier than we thought [before the game]. That made absolute sense. Nothing else happened.”

Klopp added that he doesn’t want to talk about playing Ox at the moment, but it looked “exciting” in training.

The German claimed that the Ox still needs more time, and it was good so far for the midfielder.

Liverpool have missed someone like Oxlade-Chamberlain in the midfield this season and his return would be a huge boost for the team.

It was great seeing him pick up some minutes for the U23s and the fans were relieved that the Englishman didn’t have a huge problem.
