Liverpool FC transfer news: Maxi Gomez could be signed for £22million from Celta Vigo

Liverpool target Maxi Gomez could be signed for just £22million, according to the Mirror (h/t Metro).

The Uruguayan has scored nine goals and has five assists from 24 games for Celta Vigo this season, but the club could be relegated at the end of the campaign.

Celta lie 18th in the table and are one point away from safety. The report adds that West Ham refused to meet Celta’s £42m release clause for Gomez in the winter window, but that will be brought down to £22m should they get relegated from La Liga.

Liverpool planning for the future

The report adds that the Hammers are still interested in the 22-year-old, but Liverpool are in need of another striker.

Daniel Sturridge is out of contract at the end of the campaign, and the report claims that the Englishman is set to leave Anfield.

Divock Origi hasn’t done a great job either this season, despite scoring a winner in the Merseyside derby.

Roberto Firmino needs competition and quality cover, and it will be interesting to see what our plans are in the summer.

The Reds have a quality first-team but we need some depth in some other departments. The left-back slot is also a concern given Alberto Moreno is also out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Andy Robertson has done a great job this season, but even the Scot needs a break and cannot play every game in a campaign.
