Liverpool produced their best away performance of the season at the Allianz Arena as they made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The Reds came into the second leg after a 0-0 in the first one and knew scoring an away goal would be key to the tie.
Sadio Mane opened the scoring with a great turn and finish in the first half, but Joel Matip scored an own goal to give Bayern the equaliser.
The Reds still held onto the advantage due to the away goals rule and made it two with a fantastic Virgil van Dijk header from a James Milner corner.
Mohamed Salah then produced the pass of the night for Mane to head in, and we ran away 3-1 winners.
Liverpool were deserving winners from the clash, and here are the player ratings as the Reds marched on.
The Brazilian couldn’t do much to stop the goal he conceded and barring one brilliant cross from Serge Gnabry, he was barely troubled.
The English youngster did a great job down the right and kept Franck Ribery in check. However, some of his deliveries weren’t great.
Created the first goal with a great pass to Mane, scored the all-important second and kept Robert Lewandowski in check for most of the game, another excellent night for Van Dijk.
Matip was unfortunate to score the own goal and had some trouble dealing with Lewandowski.
The Scot was great all night with his running but he was caught out of position several times by Gnabry’s smart runs. Robbo also picked up a late booking and will miss the first leg of the quarter-finals.
The captain had to be subbed off early after an ankle problem.
Wijnaldum did a decent job in the middle of the park. He had a better second half as the game opened up.
Milner’s passing wasn’t always on point but he was an important presence in the midfield. It was his cross that led to Van Dijk scoring from a corner.
Salah slowly grew into the game and caused havoc in the second half. He should have scored a couple but set up Mane with an incredible cross late on.
Worked himself to the ground and was nibbling at the Bayern team throughout the game.
Mane is the man in form and his first goal was brilliant. The Senegal star’s header was important in ending Bayern’s hopes of making it to the next round too.
Came onto the pitch and shored things up but got booked.
Got a few minutes and gave some rest to Firmino.
