Latest Liverpool news: Jordan Henderson to join England during international break
Jordan Henderson didn’t play for the Reds in their 2-1 win over Fulham at the weekend.
The Liverpool captain was nursing an ankle injury which cut short his time against Bayern Munich in midweek. Fabinho replaced the Englishman early on at the Allianz Arena as the Reds beat the Germans 3-1.
Jurgen Klopp spoke about the captain’s injury and expected him to be part of the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers (h/t Liverpool Echo)
“Yeah, it’s Hendo and Hendo will go to the national team. I think he will have two or three days at Melwood with his rehab.”
The German also left it to England manager Gareth Southgate to decide if Hendo would be used in the international break.
“But it looks positive, and I think he is in contact with Gareth that when he can train, he goes to the national team. And if he plays, then Gareth will decide.
“It was not that serious. And now in three or four days he should be fine.”
Liverpool have the options to deal with midfield injuries
Fortunately for the Reds, they are blessed with options for their midfield. Fabinho did a decent job against Fulham and Adam Lallana has returned to the first-team at the right time.
James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Naby Keita are the others who can replace Henderson in the heart of the park.
Hopefully, the Liverpool captain comes back from England duty without any other complications. The Reds need to have all their players fit for the remainder of the campaign.
