Liverpool opinion: Ben Godfrey would be an excellent signing for Liverpool

Norwich have been impressive in the Championship this season. The Canaries are leading the table and seem set for promotion to the Premier League next season.

Daniel Farke has done a great job at the club, and the team is littered with some quality youngsters. Max Aarons has been great as their right-back this season and Ben Godfrey has been exceptional in the heart of the defence.

The 21-year-old Godfrey has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester United (h/t Liverpool Echo) and the Englishman would make an excellent signing for the Reds.

An up and coming defender with tons of potential

The 21-year-old has made 28 appearances for the Canaries this season with three goals and two assists to his name.

Godfrey has even played as a left-back in certain games, and he could follow the same steps as Joe Gomez did at Liverpool.

The former Charlton star started his career as a left-back at Anfield before shifting to the right side of the defence. Gomez’s progress has been wonderful under Jurgen Klopp and Godfrey could follow the same path in the coming years.

The youngster would also provide cover for Andy Robertson in some games. The Scot hasn’t faced a lot of tough competition for his left-back slot at Liverpool, and Alberto Moreno seems set to leave the club in the summer.

Dejan Lovren has had his injury problems this season, and he is also being linked with a move away from the club.

The English defender has the potential to develop in the coming years, and under Klopp, he could work on his game a lot more.

It would be great to see how the youngster performs in the tougher world of the Premier League, and that could take place in the summer.

The Reds could sign Godfrey and then loan him back to Norwich or another club playing in the Premier League.

Liverpool have seen the progress of several young English players under Klopp. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Gomez are examples of our academy working well, and the pair are now first-teamers at Liverpool when fit.

Klopp’s belief in youngsters certainly has worked in the defence, and that could be attractive to Godfrey should he decide to move.
