Liverpool FC transfer news: Reds sign Blackburn Rovers keeper Ben Winterbottom
The Mirror reports that Liverpool have completed the signing of Blackburn Rovers youngster Ben Winterbottom.
The 17-year-old has joined up with the U18 Liverpool team and had impressed the Reds during his trial with the club.
Winterbottom was also on the bench when the Reds U18 defeated the U18 Everton team in the derby.
The report adds that Liverpool’s U18 team has suffered from a shortage of goalkeepers. Vitezslav Jaros picked up an ankle injury this month while Dan Atherton was too old for the FA Youth Cup.
Barry Lewtas, the U18 boss, told the Liverpool Echo (h/t Mirror) that the Reds were on the lookout for a keeper and Winterbottom would be a quality addition to the side:
“He’s a good boy and has settled in really well. He’s a positive character around the dressing room.
“He has trained well and will prove to be a good addition to the squad.”
Reds looking for a first-team keeper
The Mirror adds that Liverpool could be in the market for a senior goalkeeper.
Simon Mignolet has voiced his concerns regarding a lack of first-team minutes and the report adds that the future of Loris Karius is unclear with his loan spell at Besiktas not going well.
