Liverpool FC transfer news: Dutch reports claim Matthijs de Ligt is off to Barcelona

Matthijs de Ligt is one of the hottest properties in football and several clubs have been linked with his services.

The 19-year-old has been brilliant for Ajax this season and the Mirror reports that Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus have been linked with the teenager.

However, Barcelona seem close to signing the £75m (h/t Mirror) star with the head of Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Valentijn Driessen, saying De Ligt is to join his teammate Frenkie de Jong at the Nou Camp.

Driessen was quoted by Sport (h/t Mirror) saying:

“It’s clear that De Ligt will leave Ajax for Barca.”

Ajax won’t ask Barca for more money

The report adds that Ajax don’t want additional funds from Barcelona unlike other clubs for De Ligt. The Catalans would have two of the best young players in the world after De Jong was confirmed to joining them next season.

The centre-back has been great for club and country this season and partners Virgil van Dijk for the Netherlands senior side.

The 19-year-old has made 42 appearances for club and country this season and has bagged four goals in all competitions, including one against Germany recently.

A pairing of Van Dijk and De Ligt would have added more steel to an already impressive Liverpool defence.
