Latest Liverpool news: Neil Warnock to play Cardiff U23s against Manchester City

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has threatened to play his U23 side against Manchester City in midweek.

The Bluebirds manager was upset with some of the calls in the 2-1 loss to Chelsea as his side lie five points from safety.

Speaking after the game, Warnock said (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“I think we can keep the score down at Man City, I think we can keep it to single figures

“But I might play the reserves down there, it’ll be interesting to see what the journalists think of that.”

Cardiff were leading 1-0 against the Blues and looked set for a crucial three points, however, Cesar Azpilicueta scored from an offside position before Ruben Loftus-Cheek nodded in the winner in the 91st minute.

Chelsea also got some favourable class with Antonio Rudiger lucky to stay on the pitch and the Blues not conceding a penalty too.

Warnock later added (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“We keep getting knock-backs, I will probably play the U23s on Wednesday against Manchester City and try to keep it down to 10 or 11. It doesn’t matter who you play at the minute, it is who has a flag in his hand and who has a whistle.”

Warnock rightly aggrieved with decisions

The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for Warnock as his side were better than Maurizio Sarri’s team.

Facing Manchester City won’t be easy and hopefully, Warnock does not give our Premier League title rivals an easy ride in midweek.

The Cardiff manager was seen staring down at the officials after the final whistle and he waited in the middle of the pitch till the trio went off.

Some fans weren’t happy with Warnock’s suggestions and also shared their opinions on Twitter.

Liverpool also saw some late drama in the win against Spurs as Toby Alderweireld scored an own goal. We now sit two points ahead of Manchester City, who have played one game fewer than us.
