Latest Liverpool news: Mohamed Salah scores for third Friday game running

The relief was there for all to see, especially for Mohamed Salah, in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Southampton on Friday.

Liverpool didn’t play to their best but got the job done, and we had three scorers who needed goals for different reasons.

Naby Keita got the equaliser, his first goal for the Reds, Salah broke his eight-game duck while Jordan Henderson played a captain’s role after coming off the bench and scoring.

Salah’s goal was the one that gave us the lead in the 80th minute after a fantastic run, and Opta highlighted a weird Friday flex for the Egyptian.

This was the third consecutive Friday game in which he had scored and become the first since Thierry Henry.

The 50th is finally here

The goals had dried up for Salah after he reached the 49 Premier League mark for Liverpool.

However, that broke on Friday, in what could be his most important goal for Liverpool yet.

Salah raced clear in the second half and calmly slotted past the Southampton keeper and the Egyptian recorded his half-century of Premier League goals for us in just 69 games.

Only Alan Shearer and Ruud van Nistelrooy did it quicker for their respective clubs. Salah is also ahead of stars such as Robbie Fowler, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez.
