Latest Liverpool news: Henderson puts in incredible performance and leads us to win over Southampton
Liverpool were a little flat in the first half against Southampton. The Reds had done well to fight back after going down to Shane Long’s effort.
Naby Keita scored the equaliser but still, something was missing in the midfield.
Jurgen Klopp started with a trio of Fabinho, Keita and Georginio Wijnaldum, however, things were not working at all.
The German changed things up in the second half with Jordan Henderson coming on to replace Wijnaldum.
The Liverpool captain has had his ups and downs during his spell at Anfield, but this was a reminder of his quality and what he brings to the team.
The perfect cameo from Hendo
The captain was introduced around the 60-minute mark and he provided a sense of calm and composure along with James Milner slotting into the right-back position.
Henderson isn’t the most dynamic midfielder but he gets the job done and keeps the game ticking for the Reds.
It was his header that allowed Mohamed Salah to race clear for our second goal of the game. The captain also followed Salah right from our penalty box till the Egyptian scored.
Hendo then scored the third goal of the game with a lung-bursting run to finish off a neat cross from Roberto Firmino.
The assist and goal came at the right time for the Reds and this was Hendo’s first involvement in a goal or assist this season.
The captain produced a great cameo from the bench, and many Liverpool fans praised the performance of the Englishman.
Captain. Leader. Generational player.
