Latest Liverpool news: John Aldridge claims current Liverpool side have a Manchester United ability

Liverpool legend John Aldridge shared his thoughts on the late win over Southampton.

The former Red highlighted that Liverpool have secured late wins more than anyone else in the Premier League this season.

We scored late goals against Fulham, Southampton, Tottenham and Everton to pick up vital points, and the former Red believes this never say die attitude causes problems for the opposition.

Aldridge compared the team to Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United and our team from the yesteryears as he wrote for the Liverpool Echo:

“When games would go into Fergie time, opposing players would start to panic. The managers would make all sorts of changes and backs were against the wall, and then, notoriously, United would seem to get the winner.”

“Everyone knows Liverpool have that in their locker now. They can score late goals, and have done it more than anyone else in the Premier League this season.”

The Reds have even done the same in Europe with a late winner against Paris Saint-Germain. We picked up an important point with Daniel Sturridge’s equaliser at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season.

Reds will not go away

Aldridge added that even though the Reds weren’t at their best at St. Mary’s, we kept on plugging away.

Our ability to eke out the wins is keeping the pressure on Manchester City with the Reds having just five more Premier League games to go.

Liverpool next play Chelsea in the league, which on paper, is out toughest remaining Premier League fixture.

City still have to face Tottenham and Manchester United, and hopefully, Pep Guardiola’s side crack under the pressure and drop some points in the coming weeks.
