Jurgen Klopp’s tactical switches prove he is still looking to fine tune Liverpool beast – opinion

Latest Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp keeps finding ways to fine-tune Liverpool behemoth

Jurgen Klopp was speaking to the press after Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in December.

The Reds battled hard for the three points as they kept their unbeaten start to the season and although Liverpool looked great, Klopp wanted more from the players (h/t Guardian):

“We did really well so far and we have to do even better from now on, because you can see all the other teams are doing really well.

“That’s the challenge for us, to be focused and as successful as possible. In this moment it looks quite positive, but only in this moment – we have to make sure it stays like this.”

Cue five months ahead and the German is still working on his Liverpool team to get the most out of the Reds.

Manchester City have been a problem for the team this season as they have been relentless, but the Reds have a real chance of creating history and Klopp is still fine-tuning Liverpool.

Working to get the best out of the Reds

The defence has barely been touched this season, in terms of the way we play. Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold bomb forward with Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and the second centre-back doing their bit to keep the opposition out.

The forward line has seen several changes too. Mohamed Salah was played as a striker this season before he was reverted into his right-wing position.

Sadio Mane played on the right of the attack in some games but has been most effective down the left while Roberto Firmino has also been shuffled a bit when it comes to his role in the attack.

The attack still isn’t destroying teams like it did last season but the trio have been effective. Klopp has constantly fiddled with the midfield too and we saw a glimpse of what can be done in our previous two wins.

Hendo attacks, Naby shines

The jury was still out on Naby Keita after his move from RB Leipzig. The Guinea midfielder has had a difficult time since moving from Germany and we were yet to see the best of him until the game against Southampton.

The midfielder scored the first goal of his Liverpool career with a header and was excellent in the 2-0 win over Porto.

Naby Keita celebrates against Porto

Klopp is willing to play the Guinea midfielder even when his confidence was a little short and hopefully, Keita gets better in the coming weeks.

The main surprise was Jordan Henderson against the Saints. The captain scored and assisted a goal, and played in an advanced role in the win over Porto.

Klopp admitted it was his mistake that he didn’t play Hendo in that position earlier (h/t BBC

), and it shows that the German is willing to change things to get the maximum from the players.

The German has changed his style since the Borussia Dortmund days, and we are seeing a Liverpool team that is evolving to get the right results.

We still aren’t playing our best-attacking football and have not blown teams away regularly this season, but the Reds are getting the job done, and that is all that matters with the season reaching its climax.
