Liverpool FC transfer news: The Reds close to agreeing on terms with Werner
Liverpool are close to agreeing on personal terms with RB Leipzig marksman Timo Werner in a £43million transfer, according to transfer guru Ian McGarry. (h/t The Express)
Timo Werner, 23, has established himself as one of the top young strikers across Europe. He has been a consistent goalscorer in the Bundesliga for a couple of seasons now but doesn’t want to extend his stay at Leipzig, as per the Sky Sports Germany.
The Germany international is under contract at the Red Bull Arena until the summer of 2020, meaning Leipzig will look to cash in on the centre-forward in the upcoming transfer window rather lose him for free next season.
And Ian McGarry feels Werner will be a Liverpool player ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
“This (Werner) is a guy who since he signed from Stuttgart in 2016 has scored 60 goals in only 108 appearances – so he’s got a very good goals-to-games ratio,” McGarry told the Transfer Window Podcast. (h/t The Express)
“(He’s a) 23-year-old German international, has been interesting Liverpool for a long time.
“As we all know on the Transfer Window Podcast, and our educated listeners know this as well, when a player refuses to sign a new contract it’s usually because he’s got an agreement in place somewhere else.
“My information is Liverpool are very close to agreeing on personal terms with Werner.
“Obviously they have been lacking a natural No 9 out-and-out striker for some time.
“Adding a proper No.9 to their already very potent attacking force is something Jurgen Klopp has been very, very keen to do.
“Whether they win the title or not I think that’s something they will press ahead and recruit anyway.”
The transfer expert also added that the Reds will land Werner in a £43million deal this summer.
Timo Werner fits the bill at Anfield
We have lacked a clinical no.9 for some years now. Although Roberto Firmino has mastered the art of playing as a false nine, a quick, agile and prolific centre-forward could make our attack more potent.

Thus, signing Werner would be a step in the right direction. He will truly enhance our attacking force, whilst competing with Firmino for the striker’s role in the team.
