Liverpool send scouts to watch Fenerbahce starlet Berke Ozer

According to Haber Global’s Fenerbahce journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, scouts from Liverpool and Manchester United recently watched Fenerbahce goalkeeper Berke Ozer in the U21 game against Galatasaray.

A youth product of the Altinordu academy, Berke Ozer, 18, joined Fenerbahce last summer. He is regarded as one of the hottest properties of Turkish football and was heavily scouted by the likes Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester City but the teenager chose to join Fenerbahce in 2018.

Ozer has only made one appearance for Fenerbahce’s senior team this season, but he’s a regular fixture for the Turkish youth national teams. He is under contract at Fenerbahce until June 2022.

Berke Ozer needs time to be a regular first-teamer

It’s highly unlikely to see Ozer break into Liverpool’s first-team if we snap him up in the team.

Alisson Becker has been a stellar presence in goal after joining from AS Roma last summer and is expected to be our no.1 for many years to come. But Alisson certainly will need competition for next season as Simon Mignolet will likely leave and Loris Karius is on a two-year loan deal at Besiktas.

In that case, Ozer could be a good back-up for Alisson. The Turk is highly-rated across Europe and has already been scouted by Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester City. In fact, The Turkish Football claim Liverpool expressed an interest in the young goalkeeper last summer but he chose to join Fenerbahce from Altinordu.

Ozer is just 18 and needs regular game time to reach his top potential. If we manage to sign him, Klopp could either use him as a back-up to Alisson to help him learn from the Brazil international or loan him back to Fenerbahce.
