Latest Liverpool news: Reds create several records after 5-0 win over Huddersfield

Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with an emphatic 5-0 win over Huddersfield at Anfield.

Braces from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and a lightning-quick opening goal from Naby Keita were enough to put the relegated side to the sword.

Liverpool broke several records in the win and they piled the pressure on Manchester City. The Cityzens face Burnley side on Sunday, and hopefully, they drop some points.

Keita got the ball rolling with the first goal of the game which came after just 15 seconds, the fastest in Liverpool’s Premier League history.

Andy Robertson was great as he bagged a couple of assists in the tie. That took his season’s tally to 11 in the Premier League and is now tied with Leighton Baines and Andy Hinchliffe on the most assists from a defender in a Premier League season.

Salah and Mane shooting Liverpool to the top

The braces by Salah and Mane took their respective Premier League season tallies to 21 and 20.

Salah became only the second player in Liverpool’s Premier League history to have back-to-back 20+ goal seasons.

The Reds had another record to speak about, and it reminded them of the Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez days.

Liverpool racked up 50 points at home for the first time in the Premier League era, with our highest being 49 in the 2013-14 season.

Another talking point was that all five scorers for Liverpool were from Africa, another first in the Premier League era.

This was the perfect game to gear up for our Barcelona tie in midweek. The Catalans have been impressive this season and we need to get a decent result from the Nou Camp first.
