Latest Liverpool news: Barcelona media fret over referee assigned for Liverpool game
Barcelona host Liverpool in the first leg of our Champions League semi-final on Wednesday and some of the media are concerned about the referee for the tie.
Bjorn Kuipers is the official in charge of the game and Mundo Deportivo (h/t Liverpool Echo) claims that the referee is “permissive” and highlight the Champions League tie at home against Juventus in 2017.
Barcelona were eliminated by Juve in that game, and the report highlights that Kuipers allowed a physical game by the Juve players.
The Catalans were trailing 3-0 after the first leg and the tie at the Nou Camp ended 0-0.
Liverpool have a great record under Kuipers
Liverpool, on the other hand, are yet to lose a game when Kuipers is in charge. The Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds are unbeaten in five matches under the Dutchman with four wins and a draw.
The referee did send off Lazar Markovic in the 1-1 draw against Basel in the 2014-15 Champions League group stage.
Barcelona have lost one game under the Dutchman’s watch, however, they have four draws and two wins too.
Liverpool have been great in the second half of the campaign, and have already beaten Bayern Munich and Porto away from home.
