Latest Liverpool news: Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde warns Catalans ahead of Champions League semi-final second leg

Ernesto Valverde saw his Barcelona team win 3-0 in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool.

Luis Suarez scored the opener before a brace from Lionel Messi sealed the deal for Barcelona.

Liverpool had their chances, but the lack of an away goal makes our task of eliminating the Catalans more difficult.

The Reds made things tough for Valverde’s side, and the Spanish coach highlighted Barcelona’s collapse against AS Roma from last season.

The Catalans lost the second leg 3-0 after leading the first one 4-1, and were knocked out of the Champions League on away goals (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“They are a great team. There are still 90 minutes left and we know what awaits us.

“Last year we were eliminated in the quarter-finals having had a three-goal advantage. So the tie is totally open and Liverpool will make it difficult for us.”

Liverpool to rue their missed chances?

The Reds gave a great fight to the La Liga champions but our finishing wasn’t great.

Sadio Mane, James Milner and Mohamed Salah had great chances to score, and the Egyptian saw his shot come off the post.

These misses could come back to haunt us as an away goal would have given us a bit of an advantage in the return leg.

The scoreline was harsh on a team that had done extremely well to contain the Barcelona attack, and we still have a chance of beating them.
