“His recruitment of players has been outstanding” – Former Liverpool star backs Jurgen Klopp to strengthen these positions in the summer

Latest Liverpool transfer news: Mark Lawrenson believes Jurgen Klopp will sign three players in the summer

Former Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson has backed Jurgen Klopp to make three signings in the summer.

The Reds were busy in the previous summer window landing Alisson, Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabinho and Naby Keita.

The former Red believes Klopp’s side don’t need too many quality additions after a great season and highlighted three positions that need strengthening while speaking to Goal (h/t Express

):

“I don’t think you can say that any team is lacking in areas if they get 97 points. They have over-performed.

“They might need another left-back to cover Andy Robertson, they are alright at centre-back, they are alright at right-back. Maybe a bit more of an attacking midfield player, or a No. 10.

“I don’t think he will sign many players. I wouldn’t expect more than two or three maximum.”

Lawrenson backed Klopp’s moves so far and reminded that the German waits till the right player is available:

“We have also seen with Klopp that he will wait until the right player is available. He just doesn’t like getting players for the sake of it.

“Recruitment now is massive at this level and his recruitment of players has been outstanding.”

Lawrenson is spot on with his analysis

Klopp has created a fantastic team in his four or so years at Liverpool, and we need to build upon this side in the summer.

Cover for Robertson has to be a priority as we cannot rely on James Milner to slot into the left-back role in games.

Alberto Moreno has struggled for the Reds this season and is out of a contract next season.

We could do with another creative midfielder, however, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is back in action and we have seen Naby Keita step up recently.

The Reds have a brilliant attack and we could do with cover for Roberto Firmino too with Daniel Sturridge out of a contract in the summer.
