Latest Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp confirms Naby Keita is out for at least two months
Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Naby Keita would be out for at least two months after his injury against Barcelona.
The German spoke during his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Newcastle and added that Keita would also miss the African Cup of Nations (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):
“It was really unlucky. Bad news, he has a high-grade adductor injury; the tendon is ruptured, which keeps him out for at least two months.
“Bad news for us obviously, but bad news for Guinea as well because the Africa Cup of Nations is coming up.”
The Guinea midfielder had to be replaced after the 24th minute as Liverpool lost 3-0 in the first leg of the Champions League semi against the Catalans.
An injury at the worst time for Keita
The injury could not have come at a worse time for the Guinea midfielder.
Keita was in decent form and had found the back of the net thrice since April. The 24-year-old was getting better with each game under his belt, but his progress at the Reds would be halted for now.
The former RB Leipzig man would have had a role to play in the remainder of the season, and hopefully, he makes a great recovery ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Many Liverpool fans reacted to the confirmation of Keita being out for a while. Some were unhappy about Ivan Rakitic’s tackle that led to the injury while others expected the midfielder to return stronger.

Rakitic is the architect of this. That scissor challenge shouldn’t have gone unpunished.

Last season Salah now Keita.
Those dirty Spanish teams trying hard to bully us out of @ChampionsLeague and the referees chose to ignore it everytime. 🖕— SgBloodRed (@SgBloodRed) May 3, 2019
