Latest Liverpool news: Jose Mourinho hails Jurgen Klopp’s efforts at Liverpool after stunning 4-0 win over Barcelona
Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was full of praise for Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League.
The Reds came into the tie after losing 3-0 in the first leg of the semi-final and without Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum scored braces to demolish Barcelona but every player was almost perfect on the pitch.
Jose Mourinho spoke on beIN Sports and claimed that Anfield was one of the places where impossible events could take place (h/t Metro):
“I didn’t expect it, I said impossible is nothing, I said if it’s possible, Anfield is one of the places to make the impossible be possible.”
The Portuguese also hailed Klopp’s role in the team and claimed the win was mostly down to him.
“But I have to say that for me, this has one name – Jurgen.
“I think this is not about tactics, this is not about philosophy, this is about heart and soul, and a fantastic empathy he created with this group of players.”
Klopp deserves the Champions League
Mourinho added that we could have ended the season without a trophy but now are just one game away from lifting the Champions League.
Klopp has lost three European finals, two of them with Liverpool, but Mourinho wanted the German to lift the Champions League.
“Everything I think today is about Jurgen’s mentality.
“I just hope that Jurgen wins the Champions League finally.
“Because he lost already two Champions League finals and also a Europa League final.
“I think he deserves to make it happen. Because the work is fantastic.”
The Portuguese manager further credited Klopp for not moaning about the extra games in the season.
The Reds did an incredible job on Barcelona and we have the chance to fix our mistakes from the Champions League final from last season.
Liverpool have the chance of winning the Premier League but need some help from Brighton at the weekend.
