Latest Liverpool transfer news: Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt coy about his future

Ajax’s teenage sensation Matthijs de Ligt is yet to decide on his future despite being linked with Liverpool (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The 19-year-old centre-back has been one of the stars for the Dutch side this season and the Liverpool Echo adds that Manchester United and Manchester City are interested in the Ajax captain.

Matthijs de Ligt

The Dutchman led Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League and they missed out on a place in the final, thanks to Lucas Moura’s late winner for Tottenham.

The centre-back has attracted interest from many clubs, according to the Liverpool Echo, but the Dutchman isn’t sure of what the future holds for him (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Has it been my last game at the Johan Cruyff Arena? I do not know yet.”

The defender confirmed that negotiations have taken place but he was tight-lipped regarding which clubs it could be.

“There are conversations, but there is still no agreement. With who? The newspapers write, so choose one yourself.”

Dutch delight for Liverpool?

Liverpool already have one of the best defenders in the world playing for them. Virgil van Dijk might have missed out on the Premier League crown but he can lead us to Champions League glory against Tottenham.

De Ligt and Van Dijk play together for the Dutch national side, and it will be interesting to see if they do the same at club level next season.
