Liverpool FC transfer news: Virgil van Dijk could help Reds land Matthijs de Ligt

Mundo Deportivo (h/t Mirror) reports that Barcelona are concerned Virgil van Dijk could help Liverpool land Matthijs de Ligt.

The Ajax defender has been incredible for the Dutch side this season and led them to the Champions League semi-finals.

The 19-year-old is being linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, and the report claims that Barcelona are the favourites from Spain to land him.

Matthijs de Ligt

Manchester United pulled out of the race for the 19-year-old, and the report adds that Liverpool are in the running to sign De Ligt.

Van Dijk and De Ligt have formed a great partnership while playing for the Netherlands, and Barcelona have already signed one Ajax player.

The Catalans have signed Frenkie de Jong from the Dutch side, and it will be interesting to see where De Ligt lands up in the summer.

Spain or England calling De Ligt

Ajax’s CEO Edwin van der Sar claimed that De Ligt could end up in either Spain or England (h/t Mirror).

The Dutch defender would be a great signing and he would form the base for a fantastic defence alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool have one of the best defences in the world and only conceded 22 goals in 38 Premier League games this season.

Joel Matip and Joe Gomez have been excellent this season while Dejan Lovren has had his bit to play in our incredible Premier League run. De Ligt would not come on the cheap as the report claims he would cost more than £75million.

We have spent huge in previous windows under Jurgen Klopp and if De Ligt is seen as the right player for the Reds, a bid for the player should be submitted.
