Liverpool looking to snap up Dutch teenager currently on trial at Premier League rivals

Liverpool FC transfer news: Reds want to sign 17-year-old defender on trial at Chelsea

Voetbal International (h/t Mirror) claims that Liverpool are interested in snapping Dutch defender Xavier Mbuyamba, who is currently having a trial at Chelsea.

The 17-year-old has impressed during his time with the Blues and made his name in the second tier of Dutch football for MVV Maastricht.

Mbuyamba hasn’t signed a professional deal, and the report claims that the player’s representatives are unhappy with the club not offering him a contract.

Carlos Barros of Prestige Sports told Voetbal International (h/t Mirror) that the youngster would be playing with other teams in hopes of signing a contract:

“He will be training with different teams in the coming days to see where he should enter in terms of level.

“That can be the Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 or Under-23. Chelsea has already indicated that he would like to put him in.”

The report adds that Chelsea could face a potential transfer ban and that would help Liverpool sign the defender as we are leading the chase for the 17-year-old.

There is also interest from non-English clubs, with Celtic, Porto and Bayern Munich also keeping tabs on Mbuyamba, according to the report.

The Reds have seen several young players get promoted to the first-team under Jurgen Klopp.
