Latest Liverpool news: Naby Keita could make a shock return for Champions League final

Guinea believe Naby Keita will be fit for the Africa Cup of Nations and could feature in the Champions League final on 1st June.

Keita picked up an injury in the semi-final first leg against Barcelona in the Champions League and has not played since.

Jurgen Klopp claimed that the season was over for Keita and the midfielder could miss the Africa Cup of Nations tournament which starts on 21st June (h/t Liverpool Echo).

However, Guinea’s national team coach Paul Put is confident the former RB Leipzig man will feature in the international tournament.

The manager provided an update on Keita’s progress and was quoted by Foot 224 saying (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“He is in treatment with his doctor.

“He has started on the bike there (in Liverpool) and it is said that he will maybe in two weeks resume with the squad.

“It is even possible that he is in the squad for the Champions League final, if what I have been told is true. We will see.”

Keita was in great form prior to injury

Out of all the signings from the previous summer window, Keita was the one who took the most time to showcase his ability at Liverpool. The Guinea midfielder struggled initially but came good in the final months of the campaign.

It was unfortunate seeing him pick up an injury and hopefully, he isn’t rushed back by either party ahead of a big season next time around.
