Latest Liverpool news: Liverpool plan friendly ahead of Champions League final
The Guardian reports that Liverpool are planning a friendly at the Marbella training ground this weekend, as Jurgen Klopp prepares his team for the Champions League final.
The report adds that the German wants his players to play a match before facing Tottenham in the final on June 1.
The last game the Reds played was the Premier League clash against Wolverhampton almost two weeks ago. Liverpool won that game and then went on a little break before the players met up at Marbella.
The report adds that the Reds are still searching for opponents given that domestic leagues have ended while international games are also coming up.
Should the Reds not find opponents, they could face a U23 side or a team from the academy, according to the Guardian.
Roberto Firmino’s fitness to be assessed
The report adds that Klopp wants to see how Roberto Firmino does as the Brazilian recovers from an injury.
The former Hoffenheim striker has returned to training and is with the team at the Marbella camp. Firmino would be a huge bonus if he regains fitness before the Champions League final.
The forward is a key element in our attack and would help Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane play at their best. Klopp’s plan of holding a friendly match makes a lot of sense given we haven’t played much in recent weeks.
