Latest Liverpool transfer news: Leeds uninterested in signing James Milner
James Milner is in the final year of his contract but he isn’t leaving Liverpool for his former club Leeds United, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The English midfielder has been an excellent free signing for Liverpool since joining from Manchester City and could feature in a second consecutive Champions League final on Saturday.
Milner has been a model professional since day one at Anfield and is one of our most versatile players. The 33-year-old prefers playing in the midfield, however, the Englishman almost played one entire season as our first-choice left-back.
The former Leeds United star can also play as a right-back or as a winger but he isn’t leaving the Reds for his former club.
The report claims that the Leeds supporters want the Englishman back at the club, where he started his career.
Leeds suffer promotion heartbreak
Leeds have a wonderful manager in Marcelo Bielsa but their return to the Premier League was halted by Derby County in the Championship play-offs.
The Championship side could not make it to the finals as Aston Villa defeated the Rams to achieve promotion and it will be interesting to see what plans Leeds have in the summer ahead of the new season.
They could do with the experience that Milner has but we need him for that reason too. The 33-year-old is one of the few players with a league title under his belt and his leadership is also valuable to the Reds.

We should keep hold of Milner for as long as possible and he would also be a great addition to the coaching staff once he retires.
