Latest Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp vows to renew rivalry with Pep Guardiola next season
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was one of the first to congratulate the German on the Champions League success.
The Reds defeated Tottenham in an all-English final, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.
This was Klopp’s third attempt to win the Champions League, and he finally managed to do so in an underwhelming but tense final.
The German also picked up his first piece of silverware as Liverpool manager after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City this season.
The Reds finished one point behind the Cityzens but Klopp joked about physio Lee Nobes, who joined Liverpool from City (h/t Independent):
“A second ago I spoke to Pep Guardiola on the phone.
“Our head physio worked for Manchester City at the start of the year but he wanted to win the Champions League… no, it’s a joke!”
Klopp and Guardiola to “kick” each other again
The German further claimed that two clubs will battle again and Liverpool will try to win everything possible:
“We promised each other that we will kick each other’s butts again next season,” he added. “We will go for everything and see what we get.”
The Reds came close to lifting their first Premier League crown and that has to be the aim next season.
Winning the Champions League is huge for the club and Klopp. He lost three finals since taking over at Anfield but finally won one trophy that eluded him for a while.
