Latest Liverpool news: Divock Origi hailed as a hero after Champions League final goal
Divock Origi rose from the ashes of his career at Liverpool and wrote his name in history after he scored in the 2-0 Champions League final win over Tottenham.
Jurgen Klopp took a risk by starting Roberto Firmino against Spurs, however, the Brazilian lacked match fitness and was in the periphery of the game in Madrid.
Firmino was replaced on the hour mark as Origi made his way into the game. The Reds took the lead, thanks to an early penalty, as Moussa Sissoko’s outstretched arm was hit by a Sadio Mane cross.
Mohamed Salah smashed home the penalty after just one minute and we controlled the game by letting Spurs have the ball.
Origi scores the all-important goal
Tottenham were piling on the pressure in the final 15 minutes as they searched for the equaliser. Alisson held the fort by making some smart saves, and Origi made no mistake with his chance in the 87th minute as he smashed a low drive to beat Hugo Lloris.
The 24-year-old didn’t start many games this season but scored crucial goals throughout the campaign. The winners against Everton and Newcastle in the Premier League, and his brace against Barcelona which helped us reach the final of the Champions League are still fresh in our minds.
Origi has always put in a lot of effort on the pitch whenever called upon, and many Liverpool fans celebrated as the Belgian wrapped up our sixth Champions League crown.
