Latest Liverpool news: Jose Mourinho backs Liverpool to reach Champions League final next season
Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has backed Liverpool to reach the Champions League final for a third straight season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side picked up the Champions League crown for the sixth time after defeating Tottenham 2-0 in the final.
This was Klopp’s first Champions League title, as the German lost his two previous trips to the finals. Borussia Dortmund were beaten by Bayern Munich and the Reds lost to Real Madrid last season.
However, Mourinho believes Liverpool can repeat Real Madrid’s performance of reaching the final for three straight seasons (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“With Real Madrid it’s three in a row. Why can’t Liverpool do three finals in a row?”
The Portuguese also highlighted the reasons why the Reds could return to the Champions League final:
“Why Liverpool, with this good team, with this good spirit, with this good empathy. The club, the manager, the players, the fans. Why not a third?”
An incredible transformation for the Reds
When Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers, we had no real identity and needed to make several changes in the side.
The German has worked extensively for close to four years and has turned our fortunes around. Liverpool are now a force to reckon with and we beat several top sides to win the Champions League.

Losing the final last season was painful but the Reds have been incredible this time around, and the only way is up under Klopp.
