Latest Liverpool news: Reds set to play in Club World Cup in 2019
The Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds are set to play in the FIFA Club World Cup 2019 as the football body will appoint hosts on Monday.
Liverpool lifted the Champions League by defeating Tottenham in the final 2-0.
The report claims that there was confusion regarding the tournament as FIFA approved changes to the format with 24 teams set to play from 2021.
Liverpool are one of the eight European sides that have been invited to play in the new tournament, which takes place every year.
However, the European Club Association released a statement that they would boycott the tournament, and Liverpool is a part of the body (h/t Liverpool Echo).
FIFA planning for the Club World Cup
The report adds that FIFA will meet in Paris and they will confirm the hosts for the 2019 and 2020 edition of the Club World Cup.
Liverpool are yet to lift this title, with losses in 2005 and 1981. The Reds will have a chance of winning this elusive title before the end of the year as the tournament is normally held in December.
The report claims that Liverpool will enter the semi-final stage of the Club World Cup, which will feature the top clubs from other continents.

The Reds should be favourites to win the title for the first time ever, however, participating in the tournament will lead to a lot of rescheduling of fixtures related to the domestic competitions.
