Liverpool FC transfer news: Divock Origi’s form means no move for Moussa Dembele
The Daily Star (h/t Liverpool Echo) reports that Divock Origi’s form at the tail end of last season could mean that Moussa Dembele is not joining Liverpool.
Origi scored a late winner against Newcastle United before bagging a brace against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final second leg.
The Belgian started on the bench in the final against Tottenham but scored the second of the game to wrap up our sixth Champions League crown.
Journalist Duncan Castles told the Transfer Window podcast that Liverpool could snub a move for the Lyon star, thanks to Origi’s form (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“They see Dembele as an alternative option upfront, but I think Divock Origi’s fine end to the season has probably ruled out, or mainly ruled out, Dembele’s chance of going there as I think Liverpool are more likely to stick with Origi and buy a forward of a different type to supplement Mane and Salah.”
There has been contact regarding Pepe
The journalist added that the Reds had enquired about Lille winger Nicolas Pepe a few weeks ago. Dembele had a great first season with Lyon as he bagged 20 goals in all competitions.
The youngster has experience of playing in England, for Fulham, and he excelled at Celtic too before moving to France. Liverpool could do with another quality striker in the summer as Daniel Sturridge has left the team.
The Englishman had a few important goals to celebrate with us this season, but he fell down the pecking order due to Origi’s form.

Sturridge did get to celebrate the Champions League win on Saturday and hopefully, we have some quality transfers lined up for the summer.
